TERKEL STEFFENSEN,
DESIGNER
OUR CONNECTION TO TERKEL
We got to know Terkel while he was studying in the MA Product Design at ECAL, where our co-founder Christian was one of his tutors. Terkel used to be part of furniture brand HAY’s product development team and recently co-founded Aspekt Office with his old friend Hans Toft Hornemann, who previously worked for Normann Copenhagen. In their own words, their goal is to design products and furniture that is long lasting and functional – something we can obviously relate to.

The bag can also be carried as a backpack. I don’t do this too much because it can be a little tricky to switch the position of the strap.

WHAT LED YOU TO WHAT YOU DO TODAY?
I think my surroundings as a child and teenager. My parents appreciated good quality in design and we had many design classics both in our home and my grandparents’ home. I think having been surrounded with good quality design have started my interest for design. Further my father had a kitchen company where he was the head designer. Design was in the family from I was little. I remember I loved to sketch when I was a child and this has been something I have continued to do. An essential tool in design.
WHAT DO YOU CARE ABOUT IN LIFE?
I care about doing good work. Something people can use for a long time. Good quality design. I care about having a good relationship to the people I work with on a daily basis.
I like the size of the Weekender and think it is comfortable to carry.
HOW DO YOU ADDRESS THESE WITH YOUR WORK?
I address this in my design language combined with the materials I work with. But I guess it’s a long process. Its hard to know now, if your design is long lasting even if you think it is. It’s my vision to do so, but it takes time to find out.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN THE THINGS YOU BUY?
I think this is the same as my vision for design. I don’t mind paying a bit more for a product if it’s something that adds value to your life. Id rather buy a bag that is a little more expensive because of the design and it’s quality. Quality and design are important for me. And to support the people who is behind the product.
