PLANT LIFE

Our love for plants knows no bounds – and we’re not alone in that adoration. Home gardening – from windowsill herbs and balcony strawberries to potted fiddle leaf figs – has flourished during the pandemic, and shows no sign of abating. Barcelona’s Liceu opera house played a concert including Puccini's "Chrysanthemum," for 2,292 plants as soon as government lockdown orders were lifted (humans were invited to listen in via livestream.) Our collective desire for proximity to nature are only going to intensify over the coming months as we spend more time outdoors, soaking up its healing benefits.

Of course, for some, living and working among plants has long been a daily reality. Dutch gardner and landscape designer Piet Oudolf’s green thumbs have shaped the likes of the High Line, the Serpentine Gallery, and the Venice Biennale, amongst many others. Oudolf’s approach is to set the best scene possible to allow plants to flourish of their own accord – as naturally as possible.
