Our connection to Robert

Our co-founder Christian met Robert at the international furniture fair in Cologne back in 2005, where they were both nominated for the Young Talent Award. Neither of them won the grand prize that time, but both won a new friend. Robert combines his industrial design knowhow with a fascination for larger scale projects, to create unique objects and exhibitions. Fast forward a few years, and Robert was probably the first person in Vienna to own one of our Qwstion bags. Since opening a store we’ve had a lot more chances to meet with Robert in Vienna and discuss everyday goods from different perspectives.

The size is perfect for using it every day, commuting between apartment and studio

WHAT LED YOU TO WHAT YOU DO TODAY?
I guess in the beginning it was the fascination of being able to design something which could be used on a daily basis, and even not just by me. I was fond of carefully rendered details and products just big enough to be carried around, I thought they had the power to relate to me or to my behaviour in a very special way. As it turned out, apart from that I got more and more into spatial design and exhibition design and I discovered just more of the great atmospheric possibilities on another scale. I guess I’m still learning a lot.

WHAT DO YOU CARE ABOUT IN LIFE?
Apart from cherishing family and friends, which is essential, and trying to be a somehow responsible inhabitant of this planet, I guess I’m always looking forward to new themes and projects, challenging myself with what they demand, learning a lot. I try to preserve that very special excitement and joy when it comes to creating things.

An expandable laptop compartment would be great. It’s a tad tight for my oldschool mobile workstation.

HOW DO YOU ADDRESS THESE WITH YOUR WORK?
Being as open as possible, regarding how to work on a project or in which field of creation. My basic values tend to slip into the design anyway.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN THE THINGS YOU BUY?
I’m looking for things that last. Things which are pleasing me for as long as possible – to have around and live with.
