QWSTION + KUNSTHAUS

Bananatex® Collaborative Edition
Inspired by David Chipperfield Architects’ Kunsthaus Extension

For our collaboration with Kunsthaus Zürich we’ve translated architectural textures to the material of our everyday goods via digital printing – inspired by David Chipperfield Architects’ new Kunsthaus Extension.

The straightforward way in which materials are used in the architecture of David Chipperfield Architects was both an intriguing starting point, and an aspect we can strongly relate to. As simple as the products may seem on the surface, the visual materiality hints to a deeper narrative which generally questions how and from what things are designed and made nowadays.

LIMITED EDITION SHOPPER & ETUI

The bags are made from Bananatex® a biodegradable, natural fiber material made from regneratively cultivated banana plants. It was developed by QWSTION after several years of research into alternatives to the plastics commonly used to make durable textiles. And yet, circularity does not end with the shell fabric – the QWSTION team has designed all details, including the sewing thread made from wood-based cellulose, in ways that allow the products to be recycled in existing systems once they reach the end of their (product-)life.

The two Limited Edition Shoppers and Etuis, each limited to 250 pieces, are exclusively available at the Kunsthaus-Shop, aswell as in QWSTION stores – and are manufactured in Zürich in cooperation with ‘Nähwerk’ an institution offering purposeful work to underprivileged members of our society.
