Our bags are designed with the modern metropolitan individual and his demand for mobility and flexibility in mind. Besides questioning how products are designed and made, the focus is put on the integration of functionality in a distinctive visual language. Each product offers various carrying options.
The result are hybrid products that deny the usual categorization, to create our own niche in the market inbetween high fashion and functional utility.
- Origin
The QWSTION story started in 2008, when Sebastian Kruit joined forces with the creative dynamic of Swiss industrial designers Christian Kaegi and Fabrice Aeberhard, graphic designer Matthias Graf and poker ace Hannes Schoenegger.
We had all been searching for a bag that closes the gap between functional sports bags and elegant fashion bags. As nothing on the market could satisfy our needs, we founded our brand, in the former industrial district of Zurich, Switzerland. Our desire to create products that are for everyday use and independent in style led to the development of bags that work just as well on a bicycle as in a business meeting. We question the norm in matters of look, function and construction and pursue the integration of these aspects in our designs.
- Concept
It might be difficult to reinvent the bag as such, but you can certainly enhance it. By questioning the norm and following your vision of improvement, you’ll be able to develop a more refined product. This is precisely our goal with each new piece and we pursue it passionately. We do it by questioning not only the product itself, but also aspects of material, manufacturing, distribution, and branding.
QWSTION is not a fashion brand, it is a brand for products. Our collection is positioned inbetween high-fashion and functional utility, each bag works for business as well as for leisure. We want our products to be durable and practical companions to our customers. Therefore we aim to create timeless styles and evolve our collection continuously. When we design our bags we keep the urban human being in mind. With multiple carrying options our luggage offers lots of flexibility, which makes life easier.
- Materials
We generally use as environmental friendly materials as possible and keep improving the standards.
Our shell materials are natural fabrics such as cotton, hemp and linen, with water-repellent coatings. We use Nylon or Cotton for belts and straps, and the metal parts are made of aluminum or steel. The vegetable tanned leather handles and details darken and become softer over time. Natural materials generally tend to have irregularities, which we embrace as a quality that adds individual character to the look of our bags.
- Production
It’s important to us to work closely with our production partners, because a lot of our detailing goes beyond standard procedures. This way of development also allows us to continuously investigate new possibilities of materials, construction and production.
- Branding
We believe a product should speak for itself and a statement of origin is all the branding it really needs. That is why we came up with the concept of an “anti-logo”. Unlike most common logos that feature a combination of letters and a symbol, ours only contains the name QWSTION.
Finding a simple and timeless typeface was crucial. We discovered it in EuropaType’s modern sans serif typeface EUROPA. Run by graphic designer and typographer Fabian Leuenberger, EuropaType is based in Zurich and London. Their approach to develop typeface turned out to be very similar to our approaching bags: Questioning and refining the shapes of our heritage. Creating products for everyday use that are timeless in style.
